1794 C-4b R7 Large Edge Letters PCGS graded VG10. PCGS graded VG-10. Glossy light to medium brown blending to light chocolate brown on the devices. The surfaces are smooth and the only notable marks are a small splash of reddish chocolate toning under the 94, a small rim nick at the end of the pole, and a shallow low spot (incomplete planchet) at the top of EN in CENT. The date and legends are strong except for weakness at E in CENT thanks to the low spot in the planchet. The Large Edge Letters are complete and clear. EDS, Manley state 1.0, without any die clashmarks on the obverse. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. A nice example of a very important variety that is missing from most advanced collections, tied for CC#5 in the Mike Spurlock census. Noyes photo #73664. Weight 100.1 grains. Our grade is VG8+, very close to the VG10 grade assigned by PCGS. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 30 for the variety. (PCGS # 35039) Estimate Value $15,000 - UP

1794 C-6a R5+ F15. Sharpness AU50 or better but covered with fine roughness. Uniform dark olive and steel. Has the look of a piece that was uncirculated when lost in an unfriendly environment for a period of time before being rescued. No verdigris, and the only marks are a tiny pinprick on the jaw and a nick on the left edge of the L in HALF. Usual die state with clashmarks on the obverse and a minor bulge in the field right of the date. Probably the sharpest example known of this very rare die variety; certainly sharper than the famous Missouri Cabinet piece that sold for $74,750 in our 1/26/2014 auction. Inspection recommended. Estimate Value $8,000 - UP

1794 C-9 R2 PCGS graded AU55, CAC Approved. PCGS graded AU-55. Attractive glossy light chocolate and medium brown with frosty luster showing in the fields and protected areas. A spot of darker olive brown and steel toning in the field at the back of the head, a nick on the truncation over the 9 in the date, a few faint hairline scratches in the field before the face, and a diagonal nick at the top of the H in HALF are the notable marks. Nicely struck EDS, Manley state 1.0, before the usually seen die crack from the rim to the left side of the cap. A very nice example of the "High Relief Head" type. Our grade is EF40+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 in 58, 1 in 60, 1 in 66 for the variety. PCGS #35063. (PCGS # 35063) Estimate Value $8,500 - UP

1795 C-3 R5+ Punctuated Date, Plain Edge PCGS graded VF25. PCGS graded VF-25. Rather frosty medium brown and light chocolate blended with a few small spots of lighter tan toning including one on the 9 in the date and several more on the upper right part of the reverse. This is the Manley plate coin for the variety and die state 1.0 in his 1998 reference on the half cent series. Near the end of the condition census for the variety, regardless of the die state. Weight 87.0 grains. Our grade is F15. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 2 finer, 1 in 35, 1 in 50 for the variety. 1795 C-4 R3 Punctuated Date F12. Sharpness VF20, even better where the designs were properly struck up, but the centers are weak and there are some light scratches on the portrait. Rather glossy medium reddish brown and light chocolate with a few small puffs of darker olive brown toning on the reverse. LDS, Manley state 2.0, with obvious swelling in the field before the face. The date and legends are strong except for strike weakness on HALF CENT. Weight 77.1 grains. Estimate Value $600 - UP

1795 C-5a R3 No Pole, Thin Planchet PCGS graded AU Details, Cleaned. Lightly cleaned and nicely retoned glossy dark olive and steel with slightly lighter steel brown and chocolate toning in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and nearly flawless, and the eye appeal is excellent. The only mark is a small nick on the rim over the second T in STATES. MDS, the usual die state with a strong die crack slanting across the upper half of the reverse. Reasonably well centered on the planchet, the reverse off only slightly to K-10.5 and rotated 20 degrees CCW. Our grade is AU50 sharpness net EF45 for the retoning. Tied for CC#6 honors in the Mike Spurlock census, #5 in the Frank Wilkinson census, #2 in the Jim McGuigan list, and #6 in the Breen list. Weight 80.3 grains. 1795 C-6a R2 No Pole F12. Sharpness near VF20 but there are some hairline scratches hidden in the toning on the obverse and a slightly stronger scratch in the field before the forehead. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and the eye appeal is decent. The devices are glossy medium brown while the fields and protected areas are a darker shade of chocolate. The contrast creates an attractive two-tone appearance that accents the devices and adds to the eye appeal. Struck on a planchet cut down from a 1794 Talbot Allum & Lee Cent (TAL) with New York. Traces of the TAL undertype are visible on the reverse, especially over UNITED. LDS, Manley state 2.0, with subtle swelling right of the Y in LIBERTY. The date and legends are complete and clear. Weight 92.8 grains. Estimate Value $500 - UP

1795 C-6b R5+ No Pole, Thick Planchet PCGS Fine Details, Environmental Damage. Slightly glossy olive brown and steel with lighter steel brown and chocolate toning on the devices. The surfaces appear smooth to the unaided eye but the planchet is covered with uniform extremely fine granularity that is visible only under magnification. No verdigris, and the only contact mark is a small rim nick over the left side of the E in LIBERTY. EDS, Manley state 1.0, without the minor bulge right of the Y in LIBERTY. The date and HALF CENT are relatively weak (as usual for the thick planchet variety), but they are complete and easily readable. The other legends are clear. Struck on a spoiled large cent planchet cut down to half cent diameter and weighing 116.2 grains (versus the 84-grain standard for the normal thin planchet strikes). Our grade is F12 sharpness net VG10. A decent example of the very rare thick planchet version of the die variety, at the lower end of the condition census. The attribution and Green Tree Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. Only 5 graded at Fine or better for the variety at PCGS. (PCGS # 35092) Estimate Value $3,000 - UP
